In the heart of the Bologna Hills, in green "Val di Zena" (Zena river valley) at km 12 of Provincial Road 36, there is an old country house built in stones and bricks and recently restored to its original shape.

The place is called "Trabucco" and is at only 15 minutes by car from the "Tangenziale" (the Outer Ring connecting Bologna to the main Italian motorways).

The house is surrounded by a big park rich in ornamental plants cultivated directly by the owner, with two tiny ponds full of aquatic plants, water lilies and red fish.
The garden ends in the surrounding woods and fields that extend as far as the eyes can see.

Down in the valley at 30 metres from the house the clear river flows still inhabited by river shrimps.

It is not infrequent to see herons, fallow deer, roe, squirrels, dormice, hoopoes, turtle doves, many-coloured jays and to follow the fast flight of the kingfisher or the green-gold flash of the woodpecker. In the daytime the blue of the sky is filled with the shrill cries of the hawk and the buzzard, and at sunset by the call of the fallow deer and the roe in love.
At night you can listen to the song of the owl and the barn owl.

The house is in the vicinity of "Monte delle Formiche" (Mount of the Ants), dedicated to the Virgin and once a pagan sanctuary, where on the first days of September with millenary punctuality millions of winged ants fly to mate and to die, carried by air draughts even from far Germany.
Not far there is the archaeological site of Mount Bibele, rich in Celtic remains, and the "Parco dei Gessi" (Gypsum Natural Park), a very interesting site with unique Flora and Fauna adapted to live on gypsum outcrops.

The whole area is an interesting place for the fossil seekers as the sedimentary sandstone rocks are full of shells, leaves and sea animals, an evidence of when the valley was submerged by an ancient tropical lagoon.

The valley is the right place for whoever likes to go for a ride on a bicycle or a mountain bike, being the favourite route of the professional cyclists of the province. The provincial road of Val di Zena has been recently inserted in the "Cycle Track of the Sun", connecting Central Europe to Southern Europe through low-traffic roads of special panoramic interest. We place two mountain bikes at guests' disposal for excursions.
The house is connected to Bologna, by a fast low-traffic road, and is a real strategic point for people who want to visit the town and to enjoy at the same time the green and calm of the hills, an excellent place to escape from the sultry town and spend quiet and cool nights even in the hottest summer.

It is also an ideal place to reach the Bologna Fair District, at exit 7 of the "Tangenziale" in only 20 minutes.

the rooms

The available rooms are two, a double one and in case of necessity a quadruple one for groups of friends. Therefore up to 6 people of one and the same group can be accommodated.
The rooms are large and comfortable and have a separate entrance. The stone walls and the ancient furniture still keep the scent of a past that is now almost forgotten
